Textiles are the cheapest way to change a room and the fastest way to date one, so these are kept deliberately quiet: undyed and naturally dyed wools, washed linens and cottons that soften rather than fade. Rugs are woven at a weight that holds up in a hallway, and the throws and cushions are sized to actually cover a sofa rather than perch on it. This is the layer to change with the season or the light — the frames underneath are meant to stay.
